SABAH: Land below the wind
Sabah:
Beauty and Heritage
Sabah has a rich and diverse history, with the first historical records of the region dating back to the 7th century. European traders and explorers began to arrive in the region in the 16th century, and in late 1800s, the British North Borneo Company took control of the area. In 1963, Sabah joined the Federation of Malaysia and gained its independence.
As a local, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Sabah. From the lush rainforests to the pristine beaches, Sabah offers a diverse range of landscapes. One of the most famous natural attractions in Sabah is Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia. The Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts, and it is home to thousands of plant and animal species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth.
Another
natural wonder that I often visit is the Kinabatangan River, one of the longest
rivers in Malaysia. The river is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including
the proboscis monkey, the Borneo elephant, and the orangutan. I often take a
river cruise to spot these and other animals in their natural habitat.
One of the
most beautiful places in Sabah is the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, which
is located just a short boat ride from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu. The
park consists of five islands, each with its own unique features and
attractions. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling and diving, as well as hiking and
picnicking. It's a place I often take my friends and family when they visit.
For adventure
seekers, Sabah offers plenty of opportunities for activities such as white
water rafting, rock climbing, and paragliding. The region is also popular for
diving and snorkeling as it boasts a diverse marine life and crystal-clear
waters. As a local, I have tried many of these activities and can confidently say
that Sabah is a true adventure paradise.
In
conclusion, Sabah is a land of incredible natural beauty and rich cultural
heritage. From its lush rainforests to its pristine beaches, Sabah offers
something for everyone. As a local, I can say that Sabah is more than just a
place to visit, it's a place to call home.
